Sociology professor Paul Kingston has been named interim associate dean for the arts, humanities and social sciences.
Kingston was appointed to fill the vacancy created when Karen Ryan was named interim dean of the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. Ryan began her new assignment effective July 1 while the search continues for a successor to Edward L. Ayers, who was named president of the University of Richmond.
Since joining the College faculty in 1981, Kingston has served in several administrative positions within the sociology department, including director of undergraduate studies, graduate studies and graduate admissions. He also served two terms as department chair.
