Revisiting the South Lawn

I’m delighted that New Cabell will be removed. Post-war progress allowed little care for its composition. But it plays a major part in students’ experience. In the early ’80s, I spent many hours in lectures there. I derided it then as a miscarried balance of utility and beauty, where the first clobbered the second.  Because of the number of feet to climb its cold stairwells, New Cabell has significance in the life of the University.  This should be recognized, but probably only for a moment.
