“It’s a pretty formulaic, ‘Odd Couple’ kind of strip,” Greg Scanlon said of “Metro Center,” the comic he pens for The Cavalier Daily. “But we tried to do it fairly well.”

Well enough that online voters selected the strip — created three years ago by Scanlon (Government, Psychology ’05) and first-year suitemate Jonathan Soma (Cognitive Science, Computer Science ’05) — as one of five finalists in a national collegiate comic strips contest sponsored by mtvU, MTV’s college-themed cable television station.

“I had one guy come up to me in the dining hall who recognized me” from a campaign ad the CD ran, Scanlon said.

“He said, ‘I voted for you,’ and I had no idea what he was talking about.”
