Honors for Arts & Sciences
E. Mavis Hetherington, professor emeritus of psychology, has received two of the highest honors in her field. The American Psychological Society named her a James McKeen Cattell Fellow for 2004-05 for a lifetime of outstanding contributions to the area of applied psychological research. The award honors APS members whose research addresses a critical problem in society at large. Another professional group, the American Psychological Association, honored Hetherington’s work on how parental marital transitions have an impact on the development of children and adolescents with a Distinguished Scientific Contributions award for 2004. Her contributions to child development and family research span more than 50 years.
