Two historic buildings, Fayerweather Hall on Rugby Road and Cocke Hall on the Lawn, were back in business this fall after extensive renovation.
Fayerweather (left), built in the 1890s as a gymnasium, houses the McIntire Department of Art and the Carl H. and Martha S. Lindner Center for Art History. The Lindners’ daughter Blake graduated in 2004 with a major in art history. A re-created monitor, or skylight, runs along much of the building.
The Department of Classics and the Corcoran Department of Philosophy occupy Cocke Hall, designed by Stanford White as a mechanical laboratory and built in 1898. The building features offices, classrooms and the Gibson Room (right), which is named in honor of David E. Gibson (College ’62, Law ’65) and houses the philosophy library.
